Fatal wreck closes northbound Boulder Highway at Russell Road

A person was killed this morning in a crash involving a pickup truck and car in the area of Boulder Highway and Russell Road in the east valley, according to Metro Police.

A 2005 Ford F-150 was traveling north on the highway approaching a green light at Russell Road when a 2000 Saturn SL2 exited a private driveway on the west side of Russell and cut across the northbound lanes in front of the Ford, according to Metro. The Ford struck the driver's side of the Saturn, causing severe damage.

The driver of the Saturn was taken to St. Rose Dominican Hospitals — Rose de Lima Campus and pronounced dead, police said.

The crash, which was reported at 11:16 a.m., closed the northbound lanes of Boulder Highway in the area.

This is 51st traffic fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction this year.
