A man was taken into custody this morning in connection with a June 9 bonfire in a desert area south of Henderson that injured seven teenagers.

Clark County and Henderson Fire investigators arrested Michael Brandon Boyd Jr., 19, who faces various charges including third-degree arson, seven counts of mayhem, and several counts of reckless disregard of persons.

Investigators say Boyd threw a 55-gallon drum on top of a bonfire started at an abandoned building five miles south of Horizon Ridge Parkway. The intense heat caused the drum to explode, thus spreading the fire and burning those nearby. Two of the teenagers were in critical condition for a time and treated for burns at University Medical Center.

Boyd was booked into the Henderson Detention Center, and his bail is set at $37,000.
