In the first game of the season, the Del Sol High football team matched its win total from last year.

Jay Peete and Daniel Tyus had touchdown runs today for the Dragons in a 14-12 victory at Valley in the season opener for both schools.

“It was a hard-fought game,” Del Sol coach Gary Maki said. “I’m proud of the boys. They played 48 minutes of hard-nosed football.”

Peete scored on a 5-yard run and added the 2-point conversion, which proved to be the winning points. Tyus’ touchdown was from 4 yards.

Del Sol could have scored a few more touchdowns, but were limited because of turnovers and penalties. However, they didn’t let the miscues prevent them from winning the game. Last season, when they finished with a 1-8 record, they might not have been as fortunate.

“In the past, we would have folded with any adversity. Not tonight,” Maki said.
