Police seek mentally ill man who went missing from hospital parking lot

Missing man last seen

Police are asking for help finding a mentally ill man who earlier this week apparently walked away from the parking lot of a North Las Vegas hospital.

Ozell Sweat, 76, went missing about 10 a.m. on Thursday outside North Vista Hospital in the 1400 block of East Lake Mead Boulevard, North Las Vegas Police Officer Chrissie Coon said. Sweat had been left inside a vehicle in the parking lot of the hospital while his cousin walked inside.

Police said there was no evidence of foul play, and Sweat has a history of walking away from his caregiver. His family told police he has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and mental illness.

Sweat has no teeth and uses a feeding tube surgically implanted in his stomach. He needs several medications, which he does not carry with him.

Sweat is about 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs about 95 pounds. He is baldheaded and was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, a green and black jacket, dark pants and brown slippers.

Anyone with information about him is urged to call the North Las Vegas Police Department at (702) 633-9111.
