In response to the Sunday letter “Paul’s hypocrisy is easy to see through”:
As a Christian woman, an ex-prostitute, an ex-drug addict and a Republican, I have a different point of view that I think the writer and other women need to hear. Republicans do not want the government in your vagina; we want you to take responsibility for your personal decisions.
Two issues stand out from when I was a prostitute in the ’70s and ’80s.
One, my mother forced my niece to have an abortion. Neither rape nor incest was a factor, just my niece’s decision to let her hormones rule her life instead of common sense and virtue. I rightfully objected to the abortion, and my niece to this date suffers mentally from having disposed of her child.
Two, as a prostitute deciding to sell her body, not once did I think my neighbor, a taxpayer, should pay for my birth control pills. It was a business expense.
