Despite problems, state recommends keeping health exchange contractor

CARSON CITY — State administrators are recommending Nevada's beleaguered health exchange allow Xerox to stay on the project but that state technology staff provide in-house support.

In the meantime they say the state should consider hiring an outside contractor to analyze the operating system and recommend improvements to the online insurance exchange called Nevada Health Link.

Xerox has been under fire for continued problems with the website and complaints of long wait times for telephone assistance since the exchange went live in October.

Earlier this month the exchange lowered its projected enrollment to 50,000 from 118,000.

The Silver State Health Insurance Exchange board will consider options when it meets Thursday.

The board also will discuss hiring an interim executive director to replace Jon Hager, who announced his resignation last week.
