Las Vegas man dies in freeway crash in Utah

A Las Vegas man died Sunday after his car crashed into a tree along Interstate 15 in Utah.

Joseph L. Chase, 41, was driving north on I-15 near Beaver County in Southeast Utah when he lost control of his Hyundai sedan and crashed into a tree along the highway, Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce said.

The collision caused his car to flip over on the side of the road, and Chase was partially ejected from the vehicle, despite wearing a seat belt, Royce said. Chase was pronounced dead at the scene, Royce said.

Troopers believe Chase either fell asleep while driving or suffered a medical episode. The wreck is under investigation.
