Bid approved for U.S. 95 widening in northwest valley

CARSON CITY – The state Transportation Department has awarded a $35 million contract to widen nearly three miles of U.S. 95 in Las Vegas where the average vehicle count is 110,000 a day.

The contract goes to Las Vegas Paving, which submitted the lowest bid of three bidders, a department official said today.

The project calls for widening U.S. 95 from six lanes to eight lanes from Ann Road to Durango Drive in the northwest valley. Included in the project will be a high-occupancy or car-pooling lane to accommodate vehicles with two or more occupants at specified times of the day.

The job is expected to begin in late spring and will take an estimated two years for completion.

The state Transportation Board reviewed the contract Monday and did not raise any objections.
