Fire causes $50,000 damage to vacant home in NW Las Vegas

Fire location

A vacant Las Vegas home undergoing renovations for its next residents caught fire today.

Las Vegas Fire & Rescue responded about 6:50 a.m. to reports of dark smoke coming out of a two-story home at 5612 Avenida Silla, near Jones Boulevard and Cheyenne Avenue in northwest Las Vegas. Firefighters arrived to find the house full of smoke, said Las Vegas Fire & Rescue spokesman Tim Szymanski.

Firefighters discovered the fire in the void between the kitchen ceiling and an upstairs bedroom floor. Ductwork, water pipes and electrical wiring run through the void.

Fire investigators ruled the fire accidental. It caused about $50,000 in damage, Szymanski said. The cause for the fire remains unknown.

No one was injured in the incident.
