Freeway temporarily closed after man threatens to jump from overpass

A man threatening to jump from the Cheyenne Avenue overpass onto U.S. 95 today prompted police to temporarily shut down the freeway and part of Cheyenne Avenue.

The Nevada Highway Patrol responded about 10:20 a.m. to reports that a man had climbed the fence of the Cheyenne Avenue overpass bridge and was on the ledge. He was in danger of stepping off, Trooper Loy Hixson said.

NHP closed down U.S. 95 in both directions at Cheyenne, as well as the westbound lanes of Cheyenne.

The situation was safely resolved shortly before 11 a.m., and the man was taken into custody by Metro Police, officials said.
