letter to the editor:

Where is Karzai’s reasoning?

Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai said Sunday the U.S. must stop airstrikes and must jump-start peace talks with the Taliban.

Karzai has been critical of the U.S. for the accidental deaths of civilians killed by airstrikes against the Taliban. But nowhere do we hear of Karzai complaining about the deliberate murder of civilians by the same Taliban.

Most recently, a suicide bomber at a Lebanese restaurant killed 21, including 13 foreigners.

Where is Karzai’s mind these days as he criticizes the very people who keep him in power: the U.S. and our NATO allies?

He makes no mention of the Taliban who carry out ruthless murders of Afghanistan’s citizens, including women and children.

It’s time for the U.S. to re-examine what is going on here with Karzai.
