Moapa zoo clear to reopen pending bathroom upgrade

MOAPA — Clark County officials say they've reached an agreement with a husband-and-wife team of veterinarians that could allow them to reopen their 3-acre zoo in Moapa by the weekend.

Roos-N-More owners Jay and Valerie Holt closed their accredited zoo to the public on Friday, after Clark County code enforcers determined their property didn't meet commercial sanitation standards.

The enforcers have agreed to lift the closure order once the zoo owners finalize arrangements for a modular bathroom, which resembles a trailer. They can use port-a-potties for up to 30 days in the meantime.

County officials say the closure wasn't about the health or treatment of the nearly 400 animals the Holts have outside their home, located about 55 miles north of Las Vegas.

The zoo includes camels, kangaroos and otters.
