ELKO — A 20-year-old Elko man has been arrested after police say he stole the cremated remains of his girlfriend's mother and buried them in a hole during a dispute.
Elko County jail officials say Collin Stewart was booked Thursday on suspicion of grand larceny. He remained there Friday morning on $10,000 bail.
Police Lt. Ty Trouten tells the Elko Daily Free Press that Stewart and his girlfriend were in an argument Thursday when Stewart took a crystal vase with human remains and left the house.
Trouten says Stewart put the vase in a hole and covered it.
Police were able to find the vase and arrested Stewart.
