letter to the editor:

Parents have lost control of children

What has happened to our country? When my children were growing up in the ’60s, they could play outside for hours, coming home only for food. I never worried about them. When it was time to come home, I would whistle and kids came from every yard to see whose parent was calling them.

Now, kids are abducted when outside without a parent or adult, or are bullied in school. If that had happened in the ’60s, the bully would have been expelled and the parents would have had to come to the school.

As for guns at school, where are the parents who leave guns unlocked? It seems we have lost control of our children, not knowing where they are or what they are doing.

Now parents have guns and knives available for kids to take. If the child is guilty, so are the parents. It seems that earning money is more important than knowing what their children are up to.

If a kid bullies or has weapons at school, it seems the adults can’t control them. My question is: Where are the parents? If my kids got into trouble, they feared us more than the police.

Parents, take charge of your kids, and if punishment is due, don’t leave it to the schools or police. Know where they are every minute of every day. They are your kids. Take control.
