Thunderstorm hits southwest valley, prompting a flash flood warning

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for the southwest Las Vegas Valley.

The warning is in effect until 11:15 p.m. Monday.

Areas included in the warning are west of Interstate 15 and south of the 215 Beltway, including the communities of Southern Highlands, Mountain's Edge and Rhodes Ranch, meteorologist Chris Outler said. Within the past hour, a thunderstorm has dropped 1.1 inches of rain, most of which fell in a 15-minute period, he said.

Minor to moderate street flooding has been reported in various southwest areas, Outler said.

The forecast for the region Tuesday calls for partly sunny skies with isolated thunderstorms. Outler said residents can expect a "muggy morning."
