Cambodian police investigate death of American man

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia — Police in Cambodia said Saturday that they were investigating the death of an American teacher whose body was found wrapped in a curtain at a garbage dump in the capital.

U.S. diplomats in the Southeast Asian nation could not immediately be reached for comment. But Cambodian police official Mom Sitha identified the man as William Glenn and said he had been in the Southeast Asian nation for two months, teaching at several schools in Phnom Penh.

According to Mom Sitha, Glenn left his guesthouse early Tuesday on a motorcycle taxi and never returned. His body was discovered Wednesday, and no suspects have been apprehended yet, he said.

Mom Sitha said the motive for the killing was not known. "Up to now we have not yet identified the killers, but our police experts will pursue the case until the perpetrators are arrested," he said.

The English-language Cambodia Daily newspaper reported that Glenn was strangled to death. The paper said he was 43 and was from Mississippi.
