letter to the editor:

Obamacare is affordable

The July 3 letter titled “A conservative’s view of the issues” is blatantly filled with falsehoods and distortions.

First, Obamacare is affordable and allows people from all income brackets access to health care. Prior to Obamacare, a small minority of people — except for those who are subsidized by their employers — could afford health care insurance. Single employees paid 18 percent, and family coverage for employees cost the employee 28 percent of their policy’s cost. Premiums were rising every year by an average of 9 percent. Non-working or self-employed people had a choice of expensive policies or cheap junk policies. These policies could have been cancelled at any time by the health insurance company. People who opted for the junk policy may pay slightly more under Obamacare but are receiving a comprehensive plan that cannot be cancelled. Many people are getting coverage for the first time. The Republican fixes (never brought forward as a bill) were only propaganda.
