CARSON CITY — Miss USA Nia Sanchez of Las Vegas, who didn’t know the capital of Nevada after winning the crown, got a tour of the capitol building in Carson City today and met briefly with Gov. Brian Sandoval.

This was her first stop on a “homecoming tour” of Nevada that includes visits to hospitals in Reno before returning to Las Vegas. She won the Miss USA Pageant last month in Baton Rouge, La.

“Congratulations, we’re very proud of you,” Sandoval told Sanchez, 24, who said she was excited about her visit to Carson City.

When questioned after winning the crown, Sanchez could not name the capital of Nevada. She said today that she has never voted in Nevada or anywhere else.

Sanchez qualified to compete in the Miss Universe Pageant later this year.
