Nieuwenhuis blasts home run in return to 51s lineup

Kirk Nieuwenhuis, in his first game back with the Triple-A Las Vegas 51s after a two-month stay in the major leagues, belted a three-run home run today in a five-run seventh inning to help the 51s beat visiting Salt Lake, 11-6.

Nieuwenhuis, who returned to the minor leagues when the Mets promoted Wilmer Flores, went 3 for 5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Josh Satin, Allan Dykstra and Andrew Brown also homered for Las Vegas, who returned to Cashman Field for the first time in two weeks after a nine-game road trip and the all-star break.

Las Vegas (60-48) pounded out 14 hits — Dykstra finished 4 for 4 with three runs scored, and Brown and Satin each recorded a pair of hits.

The series continues at 7:05 p.m. Saturday.
