California man dies in apparent drowning in Lake Tahoe

INCLINE VILLAGE — Authorities say a 42-year-old Southern California man has died in an apparent drowning at Sand Harbor State Park at Lake Tahoe.

Washoe County sheriff's officials say the incident happened Monday afternoon, while the man was swimming about 50 yards from the shore in Diver's Cove.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Tami Cummings says the man was yelling for help and a bystander swam out to rescue him.

She says lifeguards and firefighters performed CPR and used a defibrillator to try to revive him, but were unsuccessful.

The man's name has not yet been released.
