Las Vegas woman arrested in Justice Court embezzlement

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of embezzling $38,000 in traffic fines from Las Vegas Justice Court.

Stacy Blankenship-Hicks is accused of pocketing the money when she worked as a customer service employee for the court's traffic division.

She has been charged with four counts of felony theft and one count of unlawful use of a computer.

She was arrested in Virginia earlier this week and has since been returned to Las Vegas.

Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson told KLAS-TV an audit shows as much as $91,000 might have been misappropriated and he believes additional charges will be filed to reflect the higher figure.

Officials say it appears cases were closed out in the computer and those who paid traffic fines still got credit for it.
