State warns of uninsured drivers with ride-sharing services

CARSON CITY — The state Insurance Division is warning consumers that catching a lift with a ride-sharing service could carry dangers.

Consumers should be aware they may be riding with a driver who is not insured, and if passengers are injured in an accident, they could be at financial risk, officials said.

Ride-sharing companies offer transportation services for a fee, using smart phone applications to connect passengers with drivers offering transportation in their personal vehicles.

The division is advising potential passengers to check insurance coverage of the driver before agreeing to the ride.
