Accident scene

Two men on a moped died early this morning in a hit-and-run accident involving three vehicles at Las Vegas Boulevard and Windmill Lane.

Metro Police responded about 1:15 a.m. to the collision. Evidence at the scene indicated the moped was stopped at the intersection in a southbound lane on Las Vegas Boulevard South when the driver of the Ford F-150 pickup slammed into it from behind, police said.

The impact sent the 20-year-old driver and 21-year-old passenger flying from the Moped. The Moped lodged underneath the truck as the driver continued through a red light and into the intersection, where the truck hit a Toyota sedan, police said.

The driver abandoned the truck about a half-mile from the initial collision and ran, police said. The driver is still missing. The driver in the Toyota sedan was not injured in the collision.

Two people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol in the area, but they had nothing to do with the collision, police said.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office this afternoon identified one of the Moped riders as Phillip Nguyen, 21, from Las Vegas. The identity of the 20-year-old rider has not been released.

Police urge anyone with information regarding the collision to call Metro Accident Investigation at 828-3595, or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers, 702-385-5555.
