Roommate of shooting victim arrested on murder count

The roommate of a man found shot to death Thursday night has been arrested on a count of murder, Metro Police said.

The shooting happened about 8:10 p.m. Thursday in the 1500 block of North Eastern Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a deceased male victim on nearby Owens Avenue, police said.

Homicide detectives determined the victim had been arguing with his roommate — 35-year-old Charles Redd Jr. — prior to the shooting, officials said. Police believe Redd shot the victim when the verbal argument escalated, officials said.

Officers later located Redd and arrested him on counts of murder with a deadly weapon and prohibited person in possession of a firearm, police said. He remains in custody at the Clark County Detention Center without bail.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim pending notification of his relatives. His death marks the 40th homicide in Las Vegas this year.

Metro asks anyone with information about the incident to contact the homicide section at 702-828-3521. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 or online at crimestoppersofnv.com.
