Scooter rider critically injured in crash with school bus

A school bus carrying 40 middle school students collided with a man on a scooter today in southwest Las Vegas.

The man on the scooter was transported to University Medical Center in critical condition, Metro Police spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said. No one on the bus was injured, Clark County School District spokeswoman Melinda Malone said.

Metro Police responded about 7:40 a.m. to the crash at Torrey Pines Drive and Candleberry Road, near Flamingo Road.

The bus was taking students to Sawyer Middle School, when it struck the man on the scooter, police said.

Torrey Pines Drive was closed to traffic from Flamingo to Candleberry. Metro’s fatal accident detail was investigating the crash.

The School District will also conduct its own investigation, standard protocol after an accident, officials said.
