Police turn up empty in search for man after robbery

Updated Wednesday, May 14, 2014 | 2:48 p.m.

A man who reportedly barricaded himself inside a Budget Suites apartment after a robbery this morning was not inside when officers entered the apartment, Metro Police said.

Police entered the room about 11:15 a.m. and found it empty, Metro Officer Laura Meltzer said. The suspect in the robbery remains missing.

Police initially responded about 5:45 a.m. to reports that a man with a handgun had robbed a business in the 3200 block of W. Tropicana Avenue, officials said.

The man ran away and was reportedly seen going into a room at the Budget Suites extended-stay residences at Polaris and Tropicana Avenue, Metro Officer Laura Meltzer said.

Police evacuated nearby guests and attempted to make contact with the man. SWAT officers were called to help, Meltzer said. Residents were eventually allowed to return to their apartments.

Metro is searching for the suspect.
