Metro Police arrested a man in connection with a hit-and-run on Wednesday afternoon that left a 16-year-old girl walking near Clark High School in serious condition.

Ronald Martin, 61, of Las Vegas, was booked into Clark County Detention Center on charges of DUI with substantial bodily harm and felony hit-and-run, according to a Metro press release.

Witness statements indicate a 2002 Pontiac Montana van ran off the road and struck the girl near Pennwood Avenue and Arville Street.

The driver didn’t stop, but a witness on a motorized scooter whipped out a cellphone and snapped a photo of the van’s license plate, police said.

Officers were waiting for Martin when he returned to the address where the van was registered.

Martin failed a sobriety test, police said.

The victim, whose injuries included a broken leg, was transported to University Medical Center.
