51s take down El Paso to open road trip

The Las Vegas 51s won for the eighth time in nine games today, using a 3 for 5 performance with a home run from Cesar Puello in beating host El Paso 4-3 in the first game of an eight-game road trip.

Three Las Vegas relievers combined to pitch three scoreless innings to close the game, including Vic Black in the ninth inning for his fifth save of the season.

Puello, who hit 16 home runs last year in Double-A Binghamton before being suspended 50 games as part of the Biogenesis performance-enhancing drug scandal, connected on his first home run of the season in the fourth to give the 51s the lead for good.

Andrew Brown went 2 for 4 with a double and run scored, and Zach Lutz had two hits and a stolen base to help the 51s improve to 29-11 on the season.

The series at El Paso continues at 6:05 p.m. Friday.
