Police find man driving with gunshot wounds; drug deal suspected

Metro Police's gang unit is investigating a possible drug deal gone wrong after officers happened upon a man driving with gunshot wounds, police said.

Officers pulled the man over near U.S. 95 and Decatur Boulevard after noticing a green Lexus with a bullet hole in the window around 3:40 p.m. Saturday, Lt. James Mizusaki said.

The car had multiple bullet holes on the driver's side, and the driver had been wounded by gunfire "at least a couple of times," he said.

The driver, who was uncooperative, was taken to University Medical Center, Mizusaki said.

Officers think the shooting might be related to an incident 40 minutes earlier at J Street and Washington Avenue, Mizusaki said.

A man approached officers and said something suspicious about being ripped off while trying to buy drugs, he said.

A check of the area turned up bullet casings, which officers think might be from the shooting involving the Lexus driver, Mizusaki said.
