Gas leak

A gas leak this morning has been repaired, but not before it caused part of Brooks Avenue to be closed and prompted the evacuation of two nearby schools in North Las Vegas .

Construction crews working in the area hit a gas line about 6:55 a.m., causing the leak, North Las Vegas Police Sgt. Chrissie Coon said.

Southwest Gas shut off the supply about 8:15 a.m. and crews repaired the line by 10:30 a.m., company spokeswoman Cynthia Messina said.

Brooks Avenue was closed to traffic between Commerce and Revere streets. Desert Rose Adult High School and Jeffrey Behavior School resumed classes about 8:30 a.m. after both schools were evacuated, Clark County School District spokeswoman Melinda Malone said.
