Body of missing swimmer found floating in Lake Mead

The body of a man presumed to have drowned in Lake Mead was found this morning floating in the water nearly two weeks after he disappeared while swimming.

National Park Service rangers discovered the body just before 10 a.m. while patrolling Lake Mead near Castle Reef.

The body is to believed to be that of a 45-year-old Henderson man who had disappeared on May 10 while swimming in the area, Lake Mead National Recreation spokeswoman Christie Vanover said.

The man had been swimming without a life jacket with two other people near Castle Reef when he disappeared underwater, Vanover said. The two other swimmers were able to return safely to a boat.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the man after his family is notified.
