Traffic enforcement effort to target Spring Mountain and Decatur intersection

Targeted intersection

Law enforcement officers will be passing out traffic citations while reminding morning commuters about the rules of the road on Thursday at Spring Mountain Road and Decatur Boulevard.

Nevada Highway Patrol and Metro Police traffic officers will be posted from 7 a.m. until noon at the busy intersection, ready to pull over any drivers violating traffic rules, according to a Nevada Highway Patrol news release.

Officers will be targeting drivers using cell phones, speeding, driving without a seat belt and breaking any other laws at the intersection. Metro Capt. James Seebock said the intersection was a recipe for danger with high-traffic volume, high speeds and 20 total lanes converging at the center.

The goal Thursday is to help emphasize safe driving and decrease traffic fatalities at a dangerous intersection during high-traffic volume, NHP officials said.
