Two home run game from Nieuwenhuis lifts 51s past El Paso

Kirk Nieuwenhuis hit a pair of home runs today for the Las Vegas 51s, including a two-run shot in the first inning to help the 51s down host El Paso, 13-7.

Las Vegas pounded out 17 hits and scored three runs in three separate innings, including the first, to take the lead for good. Nieuwenhuis finished 4 of 6 with four RBIs and Brandon Allen had a two-run home run and three RBIs.

Leadoff hitter Daniel Muno had two runs and two hits for the 51s, who won for the second straight day at El Paso. Allan Dykstra also had a big day, going 3 for 5 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs.

The series continues at 5:35 p.m. Thursday. Las Vegas returns home to Cashman Field Saturday to face the Reno Aces, the Triple-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
