letter to the editor:

GOP is a party of obstructionists

President Barack Obama finally said what needed to be said: that Congress is not broken; we just have a GOP that says no to everything.

On the evening of Obama’s first inauguration, the GOP had a meeting with an elite cast of characters, including Newt Gingrich, to form an agreement that the GOP would say no to everything brought forward by the Obama administration.

History will show the GOP was filled with hatred and tried to destroy the president and his proposals to help the American people.

How can a nation move forward when the government we depend on is constantly thwarted by a party of obstructionists? The GOP leaders and the heads of the House committees run by Republicans are to blame. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has set records by turning clotures and filibusters into an art form. Then we have House Speaker John Boehner, who stomps his feet and refuses to bring Senate bills that are in conflict with the GOP agenda up for a vote.

Why did the GOP decide before Obama even took office to obstruct his every attempt to legislate? I know the answer.

There are two years left in Obama’s term and then we’ll have eight years of Hillary Clinton. I trust voters will not let the GOP put a permanent stain on the history of the U.S. government. May God bless America!
