The Spring Valley High football team scored 37 unanswered points Thursday to finish the game against visiting Clark for a 37-6 victory in a Division I-A Sunset game.

Both teams struggled moving the ball in the first half of the televised game, but Spring Valley stole the momentum early in the third quarter. Trailing 6-3, Branden Peterson blocked a punt and returned it 15 yards to give Spring Valley the lead for good.

Clark, who last week upset defending state champion Faith Lutheran, struck first when Marquice Stuart took a short pass untouched for a touchdown of about 70 yards.

But Spring Valley crowded the line of scrimmage all night to contain the Clark rushing game to prevent Clark’s athletes from making long runs.

Christian Tasi and Michael Bianco each had second-half touchdown runs, starting with Tasi’s 10-yard run midway through the third quarter.

Spring Valley took more than six minutes of the clock to open the second half with its ground game before Tasi scored. Then, after Clark went 3-and-out on its first possession of the half, Peterson scored the game-winner with the blocked punt.
