Chaparral is blossoming as a surprise contender in the Division I-A Sunrise postseason race.

The Cowboys scored all their points in the second half Saturday night, rallying from a six-point halftime deficit on the way to a 28-6 home win over Del Sol.

Chaparral quarterback Jerome Williamson scored on a 35-yard run and fired a 40-yard touchdown pass to Seitu Wiche.

The Cowboys (2-3, 2-1) also got touchdown runs from Richard Nelson and Casey Acosta.

“Del Sol came out pretty strong,” Cowboys coach Paul Nihipali said. “We had to make adjustments at halftime, and the kids got focused again. The kids pulled through. They stepped up their game.”

The Dragons dropped to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in league.
