Teenager surrenders in fatal shooting of woman in car

A 15-year-old boy has surrendered to Metro Police detectives in connection with a shooting Friday that killed a woman in the western valley.

The teen is suspected of firing several rounds and striking Cassandra Lee Cassidy, 24, according to police.

Cassidy had pulled up to a house on the 1300 block of Westwind Road, near Charleston Boulevard and Lindell Road. Two women approached her and asked to use her phone to call for help, police said.

The women said they were afraid of two men in a car down the street. A white, two-door car then drove up to Cassidy's car and fired several rounds, striking Cassidy but not the other women.

Cassidy died at University Medical Center.

The teen was taken by his mother this morning to Metro headquarters at 400 S. Martin L. King Blvd.

Police say he is cooperating with the investigation.
