Kickoff time

Las Vegas Sun sports reporters Ray Brewer and Case Keefer spend some extra time on the three biggest games of the week — Arbor View at Desert Pines, Chandler (Arizona) at Bishop Gorman and Liberty at Saint Louis (Hawaii) — before getting to their full picks. They also discuss the hypothetical first pick of a high school football fantasy draft.

The 130-mile trip up to St. George, Utah, was a long one for the Foothill Falcons (0-1).

The trip back likely seemed much longer after they were handed a 50-6 beatdown at the hands of the Desert Hills Thunder (1-1) on Friday.

The Thunder jumped all over the Falcons, running out to a 31-0 halftime lead.

Desert Hills may have had the advantage of getting its first-game jitters out a week prior. The Thunder lost their opener 54-34 last Friday to Jordan High (Utah).

“They were just ahead of us at all times,” Foothill coach Marty Redmond said. “They had some explosive players. Their quarterback and wide receiver were very explosive.”

And Foothill didn’t do its defense any favors, throwing three costly interceptions on the night.

“We moved the ball fairly well,” Redmond said. “We just had some mistakes that cost us.”

The road doesn’t get any easier for Foothill, as it faces Silverado fresh off its 23-14 win over Shadow Ridge in coach Randall Cunningham’s debut.

“We have all kinds of things we need to work on,” Redmond said. “We have to tackle better, first off, and use our techniques much better.”
