A person was in police custody after making a false bomb threat near the main gate at Nellis Air Force Base, according to a military news release.

The person approached the gate about 11:50 a.m. and said there was a bomb in his or her vehicle, the release said.

The gender and age of the person were not released.

The area around the base was blocked as explosives experts investigated, and emergency responders determined there was no threat, according to the release.

“We take all threats to our airmen, families and installation seriously. We are grateful for the support of local authorities during today’s events,” Col. Richard H. Boutwell, commander of the 99th Air Base Wing, said in the release.

Metro Police were called about noon to assist, Officer Larry Hadfield said.

The main gate, which was shut down, has been reopened.
