Tim Chambers has resigned as the UNLV baseball coach after five seasons, the university announced today.

Chambers, who has been on indefinite leave since July 9, stepped down for health reasons and to spend more time with his family, the school said. While on leave, he was arrested in early October on one DUI count, two counts of failure to maintain lane/improper lane change and one count of driving without proper proof of insurance.

“At this time, the best thing for the players and myself is to resign as head coach,” Chambers said in a statement. “I would like to thank the administration at UNLV for their support during this challenging time. The last two years have been difficult for me and it’s important that at this time I focus on my health and family before making decisions about the future.”

Chambers finished with a 157-132 record, including the 2014 regular season Mountain West championship.

Stan Stolte will continue as the program’s acting head coach for the 2016 season, Director of Athletics Tina Kunzer-Murphy said in the statement.

“I am grateful for the opportunity I’ve had over the past five years to coach at UNLV and all the wonderful student-athletes who are a part of the baseball program,” Chambers said. “It’s been one of the greatest coaching joys of my life and it was a dream come true for me.”
