A homeowner shot two 17-year-old boys who broke into his house, killing one and critically wounding the other, Metro Police said.

A 13-year-old boy, who may have acted as a lookout, was in custody, Lt. Dan McGrath said. He apparently was not injured.

The shooting took place about 11:15 a.m. today in the 1400 block of Daybreak Road, near Vegas and Torrey Pines drives, police said.

The homeowner reported he was upstairs when he heard breaking glass and started downstairs to investigate, McGrath said. He saw someone in the house and fired several times before the person scrambled out a window, McGrath said.

The homeowner said a second person then started coming up the stairs, so he fired again, according to McGrath.

The homeowner called police to report the shooting.

A neighbor also called to report that a boy was in the backyard moaning and groaning, McGrath said. The teen was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition, and he is now stable, according to police.

He was booked in absentia into Clark County Juvenile Hall on one count of home invasion and one count of burglary, police said.

The other teen was found dead in the house, police said.

It was not clear if either of the boys who allegedly broke into the house were armed, police said. The incident is under investigation.

This marks the 130th homicide this year investigated by Metro Police.

The name of the dead suspect and his official cause of death will be released by the Clark County Coroner's Office.
