A woman was arrested overnight after reportedly pointing a shotgun at her boyfriend and barricading herself at a residence in the eastern part of the Las Vegas Valley, according to Metro Police.

Police say 41-year-old Renee Coughlin pointed a gun at her boyfriend and pulled the trigger about 6:15 p.m. during an argument at the home in the 1400 block of Palm Street, near East Charleston Boulevard and South Mojave Road.

The gun didn't fire, and the boyfriend left the residence to call police, Officer Michael Rodriguez said.

Coughlin then barricaded herself in the home, and SWAT and crisis negotiators responded to the scene, he said.

Coughlin was taken into custody about 12:10 a.m. and booked into the Clark County jail on a charge of domestic violence-related assault with a deadly weapon, he said.

She is being held on $5,000 bail, according to jail records.
