County hopes to increase Japanese investment, involvement

A visit by the Japanese consul general today injected a bit of foreign diplomacy into the normal mix of business at the Clark County Government Center and opened the door for a possible ongoing relationship.

Consul General of Japan Jun Yamada spent half an hour this morning meeting with Clark County Commission Chairman Steve Sisolak.

They discussed ways to increase Japanese investment and involvement in Las Vegas-area developments and the future of a potential high-speed rail line linking Southern Nevada to California.

They also expressed a desire to increase cultural and educational exchange programs, including matching the county with a sister jurisdiction in Japan.

“The idea is how can we further development our relationship?” said Yamada, who is based out of San Francisco. “This place is so famous for its gaming industry, but I’m sure there’s more untapped potential here that can attract more business and investment.”
