Nevada Supreme Court stays recall election for NLV judge

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Supreme Court has agreed to hear the appeal of North Las Vegas City Judge Catherine Ramsey, who is fighting to stop a recall election.

The court on Monday issued a temporary stay of the efforts to oust Ramsey and has set Oct. 5 to hear oral arguments in Las Vegas.

Ramsey maintains the law does not allow the recall of a sitting judge. She lost a petition in District Court when Judge Eric Johnson refused to issue an injunction.

Recall organizers maintain she has failed to collect fees in criminal cases. Ramsey says allegations against her are politically motivated.

In May, 2,700 people signed a petition to force a recall election. The Supreme Court has temporarily put that on hold pending its ruling later this year.
