The first game of Tony Sanchez’s UNLV and Division I coaching career will kick off at 4:30 p.m. Las Vegas time, it was announced today. The season opener on Saturday, Sept. 5 at Northern Illinois will air on CBS Sports Network.

The Rebels’ home opener is a week later against UCLA, a 7:30 p.m. kickoff that will also air on CBS Sports Network. Both games are part of a home-and-home series with UNLV opening on the road after NIU won at Sam Boyd Stadium last year and the Rebels next year heading to the Rose Bowl.

Four of UNLV’s kickoff times are now set — the others, both at 7:30 p.m., are Oct. 16 at Fresno State and Nov. 21 vs. San Diego State — and the rest are expected to follow in the coming weeks.

On Tuesday another publication, this time Athlon Sports, unveiled its preseason All-Mountain West team and only one Rebel, sophomore receiver Devonte Boyd, made the first team. Boyd, a Basic High grad who set UNLV freshman records with 65 catches for 980 yards, was also a first team pick by Phil Steele.

Other Rebels honored included senior safety Peni Vea (second team) and junior linebacker Tau Lotulelei (third team).
