One person in serious condition after Friday night collision

One person was taken to the hospital in serious condition after a Friday night collision in the northwest part of the valley.

The incident occurred at 7:41 p.m., when a 2003 Toyota Avalon traveling north on Cliff Shadows Parkway, near west Cheyenne Avenue, crossed the double yellow center line and hit a 2015 Nissan Versa Note traveling south in the single southbound travel lane, police said.

The front of the Toyota hit the right side of the Nissan as the Nissan's driver swerved in an attempt to avoid a collision, police said.

The 18-year-old passenger of the Nissan was taken to UMC Trauma Center with injuries that are not life-threatening, police said.

The 46-year-old driver of the Toyota, who was suspected of driving under the influence, remained on the scene and was taken to UMC Trauma Center with minor injuries, police said.

She was later taken to the Clark County Detention Center, police said.

The collision remains under investigation.
