Firefighters respond to calls at Strip condominium, Cannery casino

Updated Friday, Nov. 6, 2015 | 10:39 a.m.

Firefighters put out an oven fire early today at a condominium at Veer Towers on the Las Vegas Strip, according to the Clark County Fire Department.

The fire was reported about 4:20 a.m. in a unit on the 19th floor of a building at the CityCenter complex, officials said.

The blaze was contained to the oven. Crews cleared smoke from the 19th floor, and no injuries were reported, officials said.

North Las Vegas firefighters, meanwhile, responded about 2:30 a.m. to reports of smoke at the Cannery at Craig and Losee roads.

There was no fire, but smoke was coming from a heater in a hotel room, North Las Vegas Fire Department Capt. Cedric Williams said. Williams said it is not unusual for this to happen when heaters are turned on for the first time of the season.

Guests were briefly evacuated from the hotel, but no injuries or damage were reported, Williams said.

In a separate incident, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue crews responded about 4:50 a.m. to reports of smoke at the College of Southern Nevada Charleston Campus.

No fire was found, but light smoke from a compressor in a mechanical room filled the first floor of a building, officials said. No damage or injuries were reported.
