The Rematches

Las Vegas Sun sports editors Ray Brewer and Case Keefer focus much of their weekly high school football discussion on a pair of high school football rematches in the playoffs — Desert Pines at Moapa Valley and Legacy at Centennial.

Tiger Geeslin is making the most out of his one season as the Legacy High football team’s featured running back.

The 6-foot, 205-pound senior was a backup until this year, quickly becoming one of Southern Nevada’s top rushers. Last week against Shadow Ridge, he rushed for 165 yards and four touchdowns to earn the Wingstop Player of the Week award.

For the season, Geeslin has rushed for 1,277 yards and 14 touchdowns, averaging 9.1 yards per carry and amassing 141 yards per game.

“I knew what I could do and had confidence in my ability,” he said. “I just needed a chance to do it.”

Geeslin’s breakout season has been so impressive he’s earned attention from college recruiters. He said he has a scholarship offer from Division II Colorado-Mesa and has received letters of interest from the likes of Arizona and Boise State.

“I’m a power back and a speed back,” he said. “If you get me to the edge (of the defense), I am gone. But I can also go through the middle (of the line).”

Geeslin has rushed for more than 100 yards in seven of nine games, including in the season opener against Centennial, a top-5 opponent. Geeslin rushed for 220 yards and two touchdowns, including a 72-yard scoring run.

Legacy (3-6) wound up losing that day to Centennial in the final seconds but could get its revenge today. It plays Centennial in the Sunrise Regional quarterfinals.

“I had to wait and be patient, and work hard for my chance,” he said.
