Mail truck driver, 61, killed in crash on East Owens Avenue

A 62-year-old Las Vegas man was killed and two city residents were injured in a crash Saturday at East Owens Avenue and North Mount Hood Street, according to Metro Police.

Also according to Metro Police:

Lana Mathews-Rhoden, 61, was westbound on Owens in a 2013 Nissan Altima and failed to stop at a stop sign, striking a 1994 Grumman mail truck. The impact caused the truck to rotate overturn, ejecting its driver. The Nissan then struck an unoccupied 2000 Chevrolet Malibu that was parked in a driveway.

The truck's driver was pronounced dead at the scene; its passenger hasn't been identified pending notification of family members. Rhoden-Mathews and passenger Ralph Aguado, 79, were taken to UMC Trauma with moderate injuries.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. It marks the 99th traffic-related death in Metro Police's jurisdiction in 2015.
