Metro air pursuit called off when helicopter runs low on fuel

A Metro Police air unit ran out of fuel while trying to track down two speeding motorcycles in the valley Sunday morning, according to Metro Police.

Also according to police:

Around 10 a.m., officers received reports of two speeding motorcycles in the area of Craig Road and Rancho Drive.

An air unit followed the pair, which sometimes reached speeds of up to 130 mph, for 10-15 minutes until they reached the Strip.

From there, the motorcyclists split up, with one heading toward the south side of the valley and another heading toward the west side.

The air unit was able to follow one of the speeding cyclists to the area of Nellis Boulevard before the pursuit was called off due to low fuel.

No injuries or incidents were reported.
